New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is proposing a ban on super sized soft drinks. If it passes, you won't be able to buy a soft drink over 16ozs anywhere, including a restaurant. A restaurant can still offer unlimited refills, they just can't serve them in cups larger than 16ozs.
Well isn't that special. Now I have to get even MORE soda refills to get my table their fructose induced caffeine rush for the day. Are you kidding me!? Hey Bloomberg! How about banning unlimited refills too!!
If you want to cut the fatties off at the source, then you're going to have to criminalize unlimited soda refills at restaurants as well. Come to think of it, that's a great idea! As a restaurant server, I'm behind this 100%! The restaurants will love it too. You know we only do it 'cause we gotta. If anyone offers unlimited soda refills, we ALL have to offer unlimited soda refills. It's pure market capitalism.
Look, if you're going to do this, and we know you are, do the entire service industry a huge favor and limit the freaking refills. Think about what this is going to do to your already worn out army of service industry professionals trying to caffeinate and hydrate your metropolis. I think Mayor Bloomberg should come down to my restaurant and wait on some of my tables during memorial day weekend or the 4th of July. These people come tired, hungry, and above all, thirsty as all hell!
We need a way to get them LARGER drinks, if anything. How about this idea. They can get one soft drink, it can be any size they want, but that's it! No Refills!
